Hangers and Dust

Titled Hangers and Dust by Ariel Gray

I wish I could have been there
To see the look on your face
When you saw that every trace of me
Was gone

All the dresser drawers were open
Nothing left but hangers and dust
I had to let myself go
It was too much to sit in that cage
I couldn’t just wait there for you
I’m not that kind of girl
Maybe now you can see
I wasn’t so naive

Now all you have of me is my lethargic pillow left sleeping on the bed
Maybe now you can have time for all your projects
I won’t have to fill your mind
God knows you’re not filling mine

Why was it so hard for you to say
You needed me
Like I needed you
Why was it so hard to remember to love me
Like I loved you
Why couldn’t you take the time
To show me you adored me
Like I adored you
Why did you have to break my heart
When I made yours so whole

You say you’ve been hurt
But baby you hurt me too
And let me just tell you
I’ve never done that
And now that’s why I’m asking you
Guess what

I wish I could have been there
To see the look on your face
When you saw that every trace of me
Was gone

All the dresser drawers were open
Nothing left but hangers and dust
I had to let myself go
It was too much to sit in that cage
I couldn’t just wait there for you
I’m not that kind of girl
Maybe now you can see
I wasn’t so naive
